HARARE – Zimbabwe’s diaspora remittances experienced a 6% rise in the first two months of the year, reaching US$352,141,671, up from US$329,571,954 in the same period last year.
This growth is a timely boost to Zimbabwe’s economy, according to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe statistics. The increase can be attributed to a rising number of Zimbabweans living and working abroad, coupled with enhancements to the country’s remittance infrastructure.
According to the stats, January remittances increased by 6.3% to US$186,908,772, up from US$175,817,866 in the same period last year.
February remittances also showed a notable increase, growing by 7.5% to US$165,232,899, compared to US$153,754,088 in February 2023.
Diaspora remittances are a vital source of support for many Zimbabweans, and the recent growth in remittances is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy.
