The love for gadgets has landed one of President Mnangagwa’s drivers in hot soup after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a cellphone given to the Zimbabwean leader as a gift at a field day at Precabe Farm in Kwekwe recently.
Chamunorwa Tapa (45) allegedly stole the gadget before it was discovered during reconciliation of the President’s gifts at the field day.
Tapa was dragged before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
District Intelligence Officer in the President’s Office for Harare Central Simbarashe Mangezi is the complainant in the matter.
Prosecutor Benjamin Chikerema alleges that on March 12, President Mnangagwa hosted a field day at his Precabe Farm in Kwekwe where he received several goods from some companies.
It is alleged that among the gifts, was an ITEL A56, with its accessories, valued US$100.
The court heard that on March 13 at Zimbabwe House when the goods were being counted, it was noticed that the phone was missing and investigations ensued.
Tapa was arrested on Monday while at State House.
He led police to the recovery of the cellphone from his son at his house in Mabvuku.
Mangezi positively identified the cellphone through its IME numbers.
