HARARE- The Methodist church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) is set to host a drug awareness campaign golf tournament on the 23rd of this month
The fundraising tournament will take place at the Zimbabwe Republic Police Golf Course in the capital under the theme “Fighting drug and substance abuse and promoting inclusion
Tournament convener Reverend Junior Paradza hopes to foster a community-driven initiative that encourages open dialogue and support of those affected by addiction
‘’The decision to host a golf tournament with a focus on fighting drug and substance abuse is to promote a holistic well-being and combating societal challenges that the youth are facing’’
For this movement the church has partnered with several rehabilitation centers and the proceeding from the tournament will be channeled toward the costs
“As a church, we have partnered with local rehabilitation centers and counseling services to provide assistance to individuals battling with drug addiction, henceforth the money we are going to get from the fundraisers is going to be used to pay the counselor,’’ said Paradza.
“With the combination of sporting enthusiasm and a strong social purpose, this golf tournament promises not only a thrilling athletic experience but also a platform to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by addiction,” he added
The tournament is expected to start at 8 AM with at least 30 teams participating
The church has made a call to the corporate world to come and advertise during the tournament
This is not the only drug awareness program that has been done by MCZ, but has also in the past conducted educational workshops and awareness campaigns through road shows and social media platforms encouraging a proactive approach toward rehabilitation and recovery
