The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) Board has appointed Dr. Nomusa Jane Moyo as the Corporation’s new General Manager, effective immediately.

Dr. Moyo has been serving as the Acting General Manager since July 2023, accumulating a total of four years in the acting role. This extensive experience inspired the Board’s confidence in her permanent appointment.

As the exclusive agent for marketing and selling all minerals produced in Zimbabwe, except gold and silver, MMCZ plays a pivotal role in expanding markets for Zimbabwean minerals. Under Dr. Moyo’s leadership, the Corporation is expected to maximize returns for all stakeholders through efficient mineral resource accounting and marketing strategies.

MMCZ Board Chairman Mr. Jemister Chininga highlighted Dr. Moyo’s vast experience, stating, “Dr. Moyo brings 24 years of experience in public entities, having worked with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority for eight years, the Grain Marketing Board for one year, and with MMCZ since December 2009. Her service on several boards of private and public institutions further enriches her corporate governance expertise.”

In addition to her executive experience, Dr. Moyo is a seasoned writer, lecturer, and presenter on corporate governance topics, both locally and internationally. Her leadership will guide MMCZ’s strategic direction, drive growth, and oversee daily operations while maintaining robust relationships with stakeholders and industry partners.

“We are confident that Dr. Moyo’s leadership and expertise will guide the Corporation towards continued success, creating value for all stakeholders,” Mr. Chininga remarked.

Under Dr. Moyo’s guidance in 2024, MMCZ achieved significant milestones:

  • 21% Increase in Mineral Sales: MMCZ recorded a total of 3.9 million metric tonnes in mineral sales, an increase from 3.2 million metric tonnes in 2023.
  • Export Market Development: The Corporation successfully created new markets for mineral products in Australia, China, Colombia, Burundi, and India.
  • Curbing Mineral Leakages: MMCZ invested in equipment for local government laboratories to improve assay and characterization processes.
  • Value Addition and Beneficiation: The Corporation established a gemstone cutting and polishing training centre at the Zimbabwe School of Mines.

Dr. Moyo is a qualified lawyer with a Doctorate in Laws specializing in corporate governance, a Master’s in Laws, a Bachelor of Laws, a Full CIS, and a BSc Honours in Economics. She is also a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe.
