President Emmerson Mnangagwa has with immediate effect appointed Minister Davis Marapira to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. Before the transfer, Marapira was the Minister in charge of Monitoring the Implementation of Special Agricultural and related Programmes in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
In a statement released by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said, “His Excellency, the President has in terms of Section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe 2013 transferred the Minister of State in the Office of the President and Cabinet in charge of Monitoring the Implementation of special Agricultural and related Programmes, Honourable Davis Marapira, to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development to be responsible for Agricultural Colleges, Water Resources and Irrigation Development, Water Sanitation and Hygiene,”
Adding on he said Marapira will take charge of Agricultural Colleges, Water Resources and Irrigation Development, Water Sanitation and Hygiene in the ministry.
“Marapira will report to Dr. Anxious J. Masuka,” said Sibanda.
This comes weeks after Mnangagwa fired deputy minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Douglas Karoro who is answering to criminal abuse of office allegations at the Harare Magistrates Court.
Karoro was arrested four weeks ago for allegedly diverting 700 bags of fertiliser, maize seed worth US$18 000 and 5 000 vegetable combo kits from Presidential Inputs Schemes in March and April before selling them and pocketing the money.
