Mutare is facing a possible six-day interruption in water supply across the entire city as the local authority works on reinstalling the valves that were under major repairs and maintenance for the past three weeks.
In a notice to the public today, City of Mutare Acting Town Clerk Mr Blessing Chafesuka confirmed the development
“The City of Mutare would like to inform customers and stakeholders that there might be water supply interruption city-wide from December 19 to December 24 to allow the city engineers to reinstall valves that were under major repairs and maintenance for the past three weeks.
He said the process will reduce the amount of inflows into the city’s service reservoirs and to reduce the impact of the shortage of water the local authority will maintain the city’s service reservoir levels above critical to minimise low-pressure incidents.
Mr Chafesuka added that there are four water bowsers to assist residents in cases where the reservoirs cannot meet the demand, especially in high-lying areas
The Christmas Pass reservoir site is the main distribution reservoir for the city, feeding the rest of the city’s service reservoirs. The works will require shutting down the 700mm bulk transmission line, the largest of the three Clearwater transmission lines from Odzani Water Treatment Plant,” said Mr Chafesuka
He urged residents and stakeholders to conserve water and use the precious liquid sparingly during this period.
