Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has advised that it will be commencing the Nationwide Prepaid Meter Upgrade Token Identifier (TID Rollover) to improve its operational efficiency and quality of service delivery from the 15th of November 2023.
In a statement, ZETDC the distribution arm of ZESA said during that planned maintenance period, customers will not be able to purchase electricity units normally.
‘’They are encouraged to buy enough power to sustain them during this planned upgrading period’’.
The prepaid system comes with several benefits which include the ability to manage one’s electricity bill, ensuring a fair and accurate billing system and helps in reducing energy consumption while promoting energy conservation.
ZESA’s billing system is mostly based on estimates, a situation that has created tension between the power utility and the consumers.
‘’We hope that with such upgraded meters many people will settle their bills. Many people were delaying in paying their bills saying were relying on estimates, but no one would pay for the actual power consumed,’’ ZETDC stakeholder Relations urged.
