Zimbabwe Ambassador to Mozambique Major-General (Rtd) Douglas Nyikayamba has died.
Nyikayaramba reportedly died in Harare this morning.
Sources have confirmed that Nyikayaramba, a former chief of staff in the Zimbabwe National Army died of COVID-19 related complications.
President Mnangagwa appointed Nyikayaramba to the diplomatic posting in April 2019 after he served in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces since independence in 1980.
He moved to Maputo in September of the same year.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services secretary Nick Mangwana referred all questions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
“I have had the new but confirm with Foreign Affairs,” he said.
President Mnangagwa, however, announced Nyikayaramba’s death during a Cabinet meeting at State House in Harare.
